NAHTI is a non-profit organization composed of seven national public interest groups (listed on right) who provide technical assistance and training to their respective members in the area of affordable housing. NAHTI is currently funded through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide TA and training related to the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program.

Formed in 1993, NAHTI's collaborative structure is uniquely suited to coordinate training and technical assistance in the fields of housing and community development at the state and local level. Its member organizations represent not only the practitioners that run affordable housing programs in cities, counties and states, but also elected and appointed officials who must provide the political support and leadership needed for the programs to succeed in the community.

NAHTI's Mission
NAHTI is committed to helping local and State governments forge new partnerships as federal affordable housing resources dwindle and helping the constituencies of its member-organizations develop effective and innovative ways to pool public- and private-sector resources to expand affordable housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income people. Toward these ends, NAHTI develops and delivers training and technical assistance that is designed to improve the production of affordable housing and the performance of local and State governments in administering affordable housing programs.

Services provided by NAHTI and its member groups:

  • Workshops: General educational sessions provided at the national, regional, and state level and designed to improve the development, design and implementation of affordable housing programs
  • Training Courses: Specific training sessions provided at the national, regional, state and local level and designed to improve the technical design and implementation of affordable housing programs, with emphasis on the use of the HOME program
  • Needs Assessments: Identifying needs of states and communities related to increasing affordable housing and the use of the HOME program
  • On-Site Technical Assistance: A variety of assistance provided at the local level that meets the identified needs of the participating communities
  • Publications/Information Dissemination: A variety of published works, including videos, guidebooks, tool kits and news articles all linked through the common theme of affordable housing
